We all recall the most famous reindeer of all. 🦌3rd Grade students and staff participated in the annual Reindeer Games for their 2nd Quarter incentive. The Reindeer Games included limbo, scooter races, face painting and so much more. This highly anticipated event allows students and staff members to share in the spirit of the holiday while exhibiting the positive behaviors we focus on year round.

On Tuesday morning the Grinch claimed to have stolen our electricity, but he certainly didn’t steal Christmas. Instead, he did quite the opposite. The green character brought smiles to the faces of the students at Rusk Elementary School as he sneaked his way through the hallways, going room-to-room welcomed with cheers, high-fives and a few hugs. The students and staff were very surprised to see him stroll through the doorway in the dimly lit classrooms. The furry fellow made many jaws drop as he entered the rooms. Although the Dr. Seuss Grinch is known for being a grouchy, Christmas-stealing grump, the RES Grinch enjoyed interacting with children and bringing holiday cheer to our campus on Whooville Day.

December Dress Up Days
Good food, good friends, good times. That’s what a party is all about. With holiday festivities in full swing, we wanted to take the long standing RES tradition of Texas Christmas to a whole new level and offer a unique alternative to our traditional school party. Everything is bigger in Texas, including our Rusk Elementary School Christmas celebration! We were blown away by the incredible response we received from families. We appreciate each one of our guests’ efforts in completing the safety requirements to attend. Mrs. Bayless, Mrs. Stanley, Mrs. Parsons and Mrs. Langston worked additional hours collecting reservation forms, cross referencing Skyward, scanning IDs, and organizing name badges. Our goal is to keep students and staff safe. Having Mr. Pepin on campus to support safe entry and exit from the school campus gave us all extra peace of mind. With the help of our entire RES and RISD village, we saddled up and took a “Taste of Texas” when we indulged in frito pie, Blue Bell Ice Cream and Dr. Pepper! A big thank you to all of the food service staff for their hard work in creating such a delicious Christmas lunch for students and about 400 guests. These ladies are amazing! We appreciate Mrs. Montie Sunday volunteering to serve drinks to guests. The entertainment provided by Mr. Ian was fun and upbeat. There was a lot of joy and happiness spread across the cafeteria today as students, families and staff gathered together. Mrs. McCormack, Mrs. Corley, Mrs. Cahalane, Mrs. Lula and Ms. Rachel created a beautifully decorated, warm and welcoming environment. It was a rootin’ tootin' good time!! We absolutely love interacting with our students’ families. Nothing will ever take away the need for, and the value of, the personal connections that are so vital to the work we do as educators. The party is over, but the memories of laughter and good cheer remain. Thank you for attending our shindig. Happy Holidays!

We are super excited to have guests joining us on Monday. Just a reminder that Monday is not an early release day for students. Teachers have fun activities planned and TEXAS treats to continue our afternoon celebration and learning of this great state! We look forward celebrating a Texas-style Christmas with you!

Texas Christmas
December is a busy month for everybody. Our schedules are overloaded, but what would the holidays be without the annual holiday get-together. The Christmas party is one of my most anticipated nights, because I love planning a special night especially for our RES team. Teachers and school staff spend a lot of time together. However, besides quickly passing in the hallway and scarfing down lunch before the next class begins, there isn't much time to connect in a meaningful way. So, on Tuesday night we all stepped out of the classroom and into the party. We let our hair down, and took the night off from grading papers and lesson planning. The holiday season is the perfect time to bring colleagues together in a meaningful way. We gathered at The Oxbow Hall, over-indulged in taste-testing several Oxbow Pie flavors, ate delicious food catered by Texas Taco Truck and shared a night of Karaoke sing-a-long led by our very own, Ian Chandler. There’s nothing like playing some old-school festive tunes and singing your heart out with your work family. It was a much needed night of laughter and togetherness! Now, let’s get this holiday season started! 🎄

Staff Christmas Party 2022
I love how the Christmas Parade brings together family and friends to enjoy the sights and sounds, and show off all of the wonderful groups and organizations that make up our community. The RES staff had a memorable time decorating the bus, participating in the parade, seeing so many familiar faces and spending time with one another. 🎄 Gingerbread Hugs, Peppermint Kisses & Sweet Christmas Wishes! ❤️ RES

Rusk ISD will continue using the Raptor Visitor Management System in all of our schools to strengthen campus safety for students and faculty. Part of keeping students and faculty safe is knowing who is in our buildings at all times, and the Raptor system allows us to do that. The Raptor system allows us to screen visitors, contractors, and volunteers in our schools and provide us with a safer environment for our students and staff. This system should not be viewed as a deterrent to parents/volunteers or access to the campus. Rather, the intent is to ensure all visitors are registered in the office and screened prior to having access to the campus. We strive to provide a welcoming and warm environment for our families, students, and staff while communicating a culture of safety and security to the community. Thank you in advance for your understanding and your support in enhancing the school safety protocols in our district and on our campus. ➡️ Guests who have RSVP'd to the RES Texas Christmas event will be required to have their ID pre-scanned by Wednesday afternoon, if guests are not already in the Raptor system. Please call the RES office if you have any questions. We will firmly adhere to these guidelines, so please make arrangements to follow the set safety protocols.

The 5th Annual "More Than A Book" event will be held during the month of December. In previous years, the event has been extremely successful in collecting more than 1,000 books. With your help, we hope to make this year's event just as amazing! Please consider supporting students' reading success by donating a book to the "More Than a Book" book drive in honor of a loved one. A convenient way to buy a book for the library is to buy from our Amazon.com Wish List, and have the item shipped directly to the school. It’s like a gift registry for the library. At your request, we will acknowledge your donation with a bookplate. Please refer to our Amazon wish list for the most current requests. Hardcover and paperback books of all genres for children, teens, and young adults are welcome. The Rusk Elementary School campus also welcomes parents, students, and community members to drop off book donations.
