★𝐌𝐎𝐓𝐈𝐕𝐀𝐓𝐈𝐎𝐍𝐀𝐋 𝐌𝐎𝐍𝐃𝐀𝐘★ On Mondays our students are encouraged to wear a t-shirt from a university or college to promote higher education, including two-year vocational education programs and the military. It’s important to begin discussions about their future aspirations.

📚 𝙱𝙾𝙾𝙺 𝚃𝙰𝚂𝚃𝙸𝙽𝙶 📚 By 3rd grade most students generally know what kinds of books they like to read. 3rd grade teachers still want to expose them to different literary genres, authors, and titles. One unique way to do this is by hosting our annual RES Book Tasting in the library. This is a great way for students to sample books they may not otherwise come across! Mrs. Sunday did a fabulous job of cooking up a great lesson on genre.

We've had a great first week!! We had many questions this week about our school hours, so we wanted to make sure our school times are communicated clearly. (Everything is pretty much the same, except the school dismissal time.) The RES doors open at 7:30. Between 7:30 and 7:55 students will enjoy "morning mingle" and eat breakfast in the classroom. (same as last year) The school day begins at 7:45am. (same as last year) The tardy bell rings at 7:55am and our learning day begins. (same as last year) The car line doors will close at 8:00am, so our staff can support students in the classroom. We ask that parents pull into the parking lot and enter the front door to sign your student in at the office. Students are not marked as a "late arrival" between 8:10-8:59. Daily attendance is taken daily at 9:00am and any student who arrives at school after that time is considered absent. RES will dismiss school daily at 4:00pm.

★ 𝐄𝐕𝐄𝐑𝐘 𝐬𝐭𝐮𝐝𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐢𝐬 𝐚 𝐒𝐓𝐀𝐑! ★ RES has implemented a school-wide ticket system to encourage participation and positive behavior in the classroom and throughout all areas of the school. These 2nd grade students are learning about the reward system and the grade level is working hard to unlock this incentive.

We greatly appreciate the Rusk Police Department assigning an officer to Rusk Elementary School the first few days of school. Police presence has been needed to ensure overall safety, enforce procedures, and direct traffic to allow a smooth flow during school opening and dismissal. Thank you, Rusk PD!

🎉 Zip, Zap, In & Out! 🎉 Hallelujah! Dismissal Day #2 was DONE quickly, efficiently and safely!!! ✅Despite the heat, all was fantastic. Which I’d say is a WIN! 😊 Thank you parents for demonstrating kindness! You really shined today! I appreciate your thoughtfulness in offering staff cold water, umbrellas for shade, and most importantly a warm smile. PLEASE REMEMBER: We ask that all students please be dropped off and picked up through the car line. We have a procedure that maximizes safety while ensuring an efficient flow of traffic. Please be courteous by entering the line at the end (which on a normal day stretches a tad beyond the intersection by the library) because there is an ordered number system put in place to safely dismiss students. Students are called out to their stop in the order in which the cars are lined up. If you enter the line from a side street or pass other cars, you will hold up the flow of traffic, be diverted to wait in the parking lot until your child is called from their classroom, and the process will be disrupted and the wait time will be much longer. A parent who parks in proximity and walks to school property to drop off and pick up a student will be asked to return to their vehicle and go through the car line, with the exception of approved "walkers" who reside less than a mile from school. During dismissal, all students who are car riders will remain in the building until they are picked up through the car line.

Rusk Elementary might as well be a historical landmark in Rusk! Raise your hand if you attended elementary school at this same location? 🙋🏼‍♀️ It may be ancient, but a fresh coat of paint has definitely brightened and added to its charm. When you enter the foyer and pass the offices of what appears to be traditional school you immediately discover hallways and classrooms that are student-centered. There are student portfolio stations that are dedicated solely to displaying student work, art or projects. Sensory stations that help students regulate, ventilate frustration or seek a feeling of safety and well-being. Nestled among all of this are small group work stations and flexible seating in every hallway. This is a place that teachers, support staff, and students use for small group intervention or enrichment. The school was able to intentionally design these unique spaces with a greater effort to respond to student needs. All of this was made possible by the donations raised during our 2023 Spring Color Run Fundraiser. We're so appreciative of the community and the support shown by our RES families. We want to continue to lead the way in providing a safe, welcoming environment for all students. We had such success in the spring we want to continue the fun and host another Color Run Fundraisers this school year! 👀Be on the lookout for more information! ⇩𝗧𝗮𝗸𝗲 𝗮 𝗹𝗼𝗼𝗸 𝗮𝘁 𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝘀𝘂𝗺𝗺𝗲𝗿 𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗻𝘀𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻!

As school starts on Monday, remember that traffic is always heavy the first several days of school as parents try to figure out where to drop off students and maneuver multiple school drop off procedures. Try to leave home early and remember patience. The school doors will open at 7:30. The tardy bell rings and the academic day begins at 7:55 am. We know the FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL can be an emotional time, both for students and for parents. There will be staff on duty at designated drop-off spots to welcome students and assist them out of the car. On the FIRST DAY, if a parent chooses to walk their child to the building, they must park in a designated parking space to ensure traffic is not blocked, and we ask that goodbyes are given at the door in the “Hug Zone”. (Please be mindful that parking is limited. Please do not block handicap parking spaces.) During the first week, upon arrival staff will ask students their homeroom teacher’s name and will offer to walk them to class if needed and help with school supplies. Your kiddos are in great hands!

Our campus admin team sent our staff on a wild GooseChase today! It was a busy afternoon of team building! I can’t think of a better way to kick off the new school year! GooseChase was a great way to take a traditional scavenger hunt and turn it into a more social and inclusive activity full of action-packed missions. Our game focussed on reviewing the basic procedures and expectations for the upcoming school year. I think it’s safe to say both teams had a blast, smiling and laughing from start to finish. 😎Mission Accomplished! ✅

The first day of school is the first day of an academic year. The students have a clean slate, a fresh start, and the best opportunity to achieve the goals they set for themselves. RES staff members want each child to have the opportunity to learn and succeed in their classrooms while having fun and making friends at the same time.
